Calling All Hotel Owners… Have you planned for the digital TV switch-over?
![]() The digital TV switchover is the process of turning off the UK’s analogue TV signal and replacing it with a new, stronger digital signal. This means ALL analogue TV sets will need to be replaced or supplemented with a Freeview set-top box. Or does it? See below. When is this happening? The date of the switchover depends on where you are in the UK. Some regions in the west of the UK have already switched, and all regions will have switched by the end of 2012. Check your region here or refer to the map… |

But there is another way…
If you don’t wish to replace all the television sets around your hotel/establishment or place Freeview set-up boxes along side every TV, there is an alternative. The TVIUM-TR100 unit takes one aerial feed (from a digital roof aerial) and streams Freeview channels to anywhere in your building. Only a small receiver box is required in each room.
Advantages of this solution
1. Replacing televisions or adding Freeview set-up boxes not only needs financing, but the on-going cost of maintaining all the settings of these, is substantial; Set-top boxes and digital TVs are very configurable, and your guests may decide to re-configure them for you!
2. A centralised TVIUM unit streaming IP TV to every room means channel set-up has to be carried out only once, with changes being copied to every room receiver.
3. Your logos and branding on the on-screen program guide seen by your guests.
4. Potential savings in TV licensing as there is only one DVB-T aerial input being distributed*.
5. The receiver units and distribution (network router and cabling/adapters) can be re-used in the future if you were to upgrade to a video on demand (pay-per view) streaming system.
6. Freeview TV channels can be received on client PCs or TVs (feed by a receiver box.
7. The ability to collect statistic on the viewing habits of your guests.
Installation Requirements
1. A TV aerial capable of receiving digital TV signals – often, good quality existing analogue roof aerials are also suitable to receive digital TV.
2. Coaxial cable running from the roof aerial to a location where the TVIUM-TR100 streamer can be placed (normally in a hotel reception area or similar).
3. CAT5E network infrastructure (network hubs and cabling) to each TV destination, OR existing coaxial cabling can be utilised with the addition of distribution boxes and cable adapters.
